Enraged, both at being placed in a midcard match, and at losing to Vlad, Slash N' Burn swore revenge. And the next week at Faceoff, he got just that. During the Lowder Boyz tag team title match, Slash came down to the ring and laid out Mike Lowder, ensuring a title victory for the New Age Outsiders. His rage led to unexpected gains when several moments later the arena went black and Ruth Johnson made her first appearance in TXW. Earlier in the evening John McDuffy had used his power to effectively give Mr. Carter, a member of his stable, Management, the TXW Championship without a match.
Disgusted, Johnson used her power to make a match between Carter and the man who had just stood up to Management, Slash N' Burn. The opportunity was not lost on Slash, who fought off all of Management and defeated Mr. Carter to become the first TXW Champion, ever, and seal his fate as one of the toughest men in the federation. Although Management's wrath finally broke Slash down the next night, when Carter defeated Slash N' Burn, it was too late, the fans had seen Slash and they wanted more.
Slash and Management continued to feud off and on, but no matter what happened in the following months, Slash had already left his mark. The night that was to be the grand beginning to McDuffy's empire was destroyed on every level by the man who would go on to define TXW's championship title.
