McDuffy's career at UFWF (age 23-29)
John McDuffy competed during most of his twenties in UFWF (one of the larger unknown promotions). Almost as soon as McDuffy sighed with UFWF he started to disagree with many of the ideas of the owner, and was very unhappy with the way many of his friends (and himself) were treated. After serving almost half of his ten year contract, the hostility between himself and the owner of the fed had grown so great that the owner put McDuffy and Scott Gareth (the other leader of the movement against the owner) in a ladder match for their freedom, he hung a briefcase containing a release form above the ring, with the stipulation that if they would loose even this shot if there was any cooperation between the two. Before the match, McDuffy and Gareth made it clear to each other that there was nothing personal, but they each had to try for the contract. In the match that followed it was quickly clear to all that no punches were being pulled. During the match there were several close calls, when each man almost got the win, but the other always came back. At one point McDuffy delivered the McDuffy Drop (later known as the Management Takedown) and went up the ladder for the win, but somehow Gareth managed to crawl to the ladder and tip it over, sending McDuffy out of the ring threw the announcers table. McDuffy finally got to the briefcase after a second McDuffy Drop onto the ladder. McDuffy was free to pursue his career while Gareth was trapped in UFWF for the rest of his contract.
(age 29-32)
After leaving UFWF under the agreement he could have no contact with any of it's employees, McDuffy didn't stay long at any other feds (being unwilling to sign a long term contract) and just moved around for three years. He made several friends in the Wrestling world throughout this time, and a lot more foes.
In a Saturday night night house show, with the promotion HCW John McDuffy was in a cage match against Vengeance for the HCW heavyweight title. After a grueling match that lasted long after watchers thought both men could take no more, Vengeance had slowly started making his way up the side of the cage towards the top, with McDuffy close behind. Vengeance finally made it to the top and had started to climb back down the other side when John McDuffy managed to grab his arm, stopping him from descending the cage. Vengeance pounded on the cage to try to shake McDuffy loose, only to loose his footing, fall and place all his weight on his arm still held by McDuffy. After several seconds McDuffy lost his grip and both men fell to the bottom of the cage on separate sides. McDuffy landed inside on the relative padded surface of the mat, while Vengeance fell to the floor to the outside, dislocating his shoulder, breaking his leg, three ribs and suffering a devastating concussion. Vengeance was deemed unfit to wrestle again and swore to get back at McDuffy for ending his promising career.
The HCW Heavyweight champion Vengeance's career being ended, the title was vacant and there was a tournament in which McDuffy won the title and held it for the remaining nine months with the company.
(age 32-??)
After leaving HCW, McDuffy finally decided it was time to quit going from fed to fed and getting pushed around by owners and commissioners. He decided he would start a new fed, and found the financial help he needed in Ruth Johnson. She was the spoiled daughter of a rich businessman who wanted nothing more out of TXW than to outrage her father. What McDuffy saw was a innocent girl who had too much money than she knew what to do with... and he felt he could easily run the company without any interference from her, but he quickly came to think of her as a plotting bitch whose will was a match for his own and liked getting her way. And so began the give and take (mostly take) that was McDuffy and Johnson's TXW.
