THE INDIAN CHILD WELFARE ACT: RIGHTS AND PROCEDURES

When Indian homes are broken through separation, divorce, adoption or involuntary child placement, children often become legal victims. Many Indian children are forced to face such circumstance. For many their sole avenue of protection will be the Indian Child Welfare Act ICWA) (25 U.S.C. 1901). The ICWA established a cooperative Federal-State~TribaI system for managing and protecting the welfare of Indian children. The range of programs varies widely from state to state and from tribe to tribe. Attend this workshop and learn how to fully assert your tribal rights under the ICWA.
